“德尔塔实验室”是由马力蛟和邹星兆组成的艺术小组,而非一个致力于科学研究的小组。虽然这不言而喻,但是在一个充满屌丝精神和新媒体崇拜的环境里,他们的展览仍会被误会为技术的游戏与感官的刺激。事实上,他们并不试图展示任何新的技术成果,更不想让他们的作品沦落为一种感官效果。
在黑色的房间中,紫色的荧光灯、黄色的荧光粉、不同形状的荧光灯管、绘着几何图案的荧光绘画以及“禁止谈论”/“No Talking”的字样像一个个游离在浩瀚宇宙中的光体,犹如梦境。观众进入展览空间,踩过铺在地上的荧光带,荧光脚印印在观众走过的地方,荧光光点充斥着整个空间。空间,不再是我们经验中的空间,维度的秩序被破坏。此时,观者也许会循着他们认为能够帮他们找到方向的光源走去。然而,“德尔塔实验室”在空间两侧装置的灯光形状和色彩,两件绘画的形状和色彩都是不同的。在这样一个脱离日常符号经验的情况下,选择是随机的还是有意识的行为?也许,就在我们对方向与选择做出判断时,一片白光闪过,一切变得苍白,随后昏暗,而后渐渐又回到梦幻般的现场。如此反复。当然,我们也不要忘了,这个空间还充斥着一段音乐。这是一段被编辑过的音乐,一段我们曾经在熟悉不过的音乐,即《新闻联播》的开播音乐。这本来只有几秒钟的音乐,被延长为三十分钟。被延长的声音犹如一个身体被拉长的暗夜幽灵,萦绕在空间的每个角落。这种陌生化的处理,使其音乐的色彩以及意识形态的象征在现场翻转了过来。
新媒介会带给人们一种全新的视觉体验,并通过这种体验来拓展甚至改变我们的视觉思维。“德尔塔实验室”极力地通过这种声、光、电的氛围营造来刺激观者的感官,但这并非其最终的目的。对他们来说,他们所应用的技术手段以及效果并不新颖,他们更关注的是通过这种效果深入至我们的心理与意识结构。在声音的延绵与视觉的极端体验中,观者也许会显得镇定自若,也许会惶恐不安,也许会变得极度兴奋。“禁止谈论”与“No Talking”犹如一对双关语。一方面是展览的参观制度的设定。一方面也是对某种不可交流与不被交流因素的映射。也许,第一个层面的设定在现场会失效,而第二层面则是“德尔塔实验室”所期望激发出来的心理与意识。由此,我们可以看到,他们在有意识地运用一种区别于使用可识别的符号来构成意义的方式来思考个体、信息与行为之间的关系。
在他们制造的超现实的现场中,经验被悬置,空间被打破,观者唯有循着色彩、形状以及声音来感知与游走。我们不要急于谈论我们所看到的,也不要急于应答他人抛出的问题。当我们困惑时,我们需要必要的沉默,而不是再用一些无意义的词语来解释另一些无意义的词语。这不是否定交流的意义,而是在很多时候,我们意识到交流为交流设下了太多的障碍,并且,我们认为应该说些什么,并且已经说了很多,但是最后会发现“说”只是一种有声的失语状态。这正是《无需应答》给我们的启示。

“Delta Laboratory” is an art team composed of Ma Lijiao and Zou Xingzhao, rather than a team hammered at scientific study. Although this is self-evident, under the circumstances full of the loser spirit and the adoration of the new media, their exhibition can still be misunderstood as the technological game and the sensorial excitement. In fact, they do not try to show any new technological achievement, and even do not want to make their works descend to a kind of sensorial effects.
In the dark room, the purple fluorescent lamp, the yellow fluorescent powder, the fluorescent tubes with different shapes, the fluorescence drawings painting geometric patterns and “No Talking” written characters are all like the light bodies drifting in the vast universe, as if in the dream. The audience enter into the exhibition space, step through the phosphorescence band paved on the floor with the fluorescence pugs printed on the floor the audience have walked, and the whole space is inundated with the fluorescence spots. Space is not the space in our experience, whose dimensional order is broken. At this moment, the audience may follow the light source they think can help them find the direction. However, the lamplight shape and color set in the two flanks of the space of “Delta Laboratory”, the shape and color of the two pictures are all different. Under such a circumstance separated from the daily symbol experience, whether the choice is random or conscious? Perhaps, when we make judgment on the direction and the choice, a spiral of white light flashes across, everything is pale firstly and dim afterwards, later, we are gradually coming back to the dreamy spot. So repeatedly. Sure, we should not forget that the space is inundated with a piece of music. This is a piece of music having been edited, the one we cannot be more familiar with, that is the opening song of CCTV News. It is originally a piece of music with only several seconds, now it is prolonged to thirty minutes. The prolonged sound is just like a dark night ghost with dreich body, lingering on each corner of the space. This kind of defamiliarization disposal makes the music color and the ideological token overturn in the spot.
The new media can bring a kind of totally new visional experience to people, and expand or even change our visual thinking through this kind of experience. “Delta Laboratory” spares no effort to stimulate the sense organs of the audience through creating the atmosphere of sound, light and electricity, but this is not the final aim. To them, the technological means they use and the effect are not novelty, what they concern more is to go deep into our mental and conscious structure through this effect. During the stretches of the sound and the extreme visual experience, the audience may seem to be calm, may feel nervous, may become extremely excited. “No Discussing” and “No Talking” are like a pair of puns. On one hand, they are the stipulations of the visit system of the exhibition, on the other hand, they are the reflection of certain factors which cannot be communicated and is not communicated. Perhaps, the first class of setting will be invalid in the spot, while the second class are the mentality and conscious “Delta Laboratory” expects to motivate. Therefore, we can see that they are consciously using a kind of meaning formation ways which is different from the recognizable symbols to consider the relationship among the individual, information and action.
In the surreal spot they create, the experience is suspended, the space is broken, only follow the color, shape and the sound can the audience feel and linger. We should not be eager to discuss what we see, either should we eager to answer other people’s questions. When we are puzzled, we need the necessary silence, rather than using some meaningless terms to explain some other meaningless terms. This does not deny the meaning of communication, however, in many circumstances, recognizing communication sets too many obstacles, what’s more, we always consider what we should say, and have talked much, but finally, we find that “speaking” is only a kind of voiced aphasia state. This is just the enlightenment Do not Need to Answer gives us.
